ASEE and ABET Sponsor National Conference on Outcomes Assessment for Engineering Education The National Conference on Outcomes Assessment for Engineering Education, held September 19-20, 1997, in Washington, D.C., provided an opportunity for engineering educators to discuss growth in engineering education assessment. The various conference sessions contextualized assessment efforts within higher education generally and promoted greater understanding of the role outcomes assessment plays in engineering education accreditation. In addition, the conference sessions highlighted the assessment practices of industry and other disciplines. A main goal of the conference was to provide attendees with strategies and resources that would apply to their institutions. The conference was co-chaired by Winfred M. Phillips (University of Florida-Gainesville, ASEE President 1996-1997) and Eleanor Baum (Cooper Union, ABET President 1997-1998). Edward Ernst (Allied Signal Professor of Engineering, University of South Carolina) was the program chair.¨ |
