Freshman Engineering Programs (Examples and Content)

II-A Panel Members: Dr. Blair Rowley, Dr. Blaine Lilly, & Dr. Robert Chasnov

Dr. Blair Rowley has been a Professor of Biomedical, Industrial, and Human Factors Engineering at Wright State University since 1984.� Since 1992, Dr. Rowley has served as a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine in the School of Medicine at Wright State.� He received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, and his MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia.� Dr. Rowley has received many distinctions and authored and co-authored many publications in the area of biomedical engineering.

Dr. Blaine Lilly is an Assistant Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Industrial, Welding and Systems Engineering, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The Ohio State University.� He has a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering, and has received his PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering.� He is also a journeyman tool and die maker.� Dr. Lilly helped to create one of the labs used in the IE program involving the single use Kodak camera and also serves as a lab instructor at Ohio State.

Dr. Robert Chasnov has been as Associate Professor of Engineering at Cedarville University since 1991.� For the past three years, he has taught freshman in an Introduction to Engineering Design course.� He received his BS in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and his MS in Physics and PhD in Materials Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

II-B Panel Members: Dr. Marc Buchner, Dr. Kenneth Halliday, and Dr. Daniel Suchora

Dr. Marc Buchner received his BS degree in Mathematics from Michigan State University and the MS and PhD (1976) degrees in Systems Science also from Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI.� He is currently teaching and �re-engineering� the freshman Introduction to Computer Programming course using a new LEGO MINDSTORM robot laboratory to introduce basic programming concepts to engineering and science students.

Dr. Kenneth Halliday is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Ohio University.� His areas of expertise are mechanical systems analysis and design, and the history of technology.� Dr. Halliday has been involved with the freshman engineering courses at Ohio University for eighteen years.� He received his BME from Western New England College and his PhD from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Dr. Daniel Suchora is currently a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, assistant to the Dean, and Freshman Engineering Coordinator at Youngstown State University. He received his BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering at Youngstown State and his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University.
