I believe in the value of understanding rather than simply being able to reproduce facts and formulae. I want students in my courses to appreciate the fundamentals of a subject in the pursuit of understanding. Then, not only will they be better prepared to tackle new and varied problems in their careers, but they will begin to feel the need for continuing, life long learning.
