I expect students to learn how to do engineering design, how to take a project from start to finish, and how to avoid various failure modes. I do mechanical dynamics and design, with focuses on rotating disks in design and cable cars.
Anthony A. Renshaw joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Columbia Professor Renshaw joined University in 1994. His current research projects concern the design of high speed computer disk drives, tape drives and paper handling devices. Before joining Columbia, he spent 2 years working at General Electric's Research and Development Laboratory designing X-ray tubes, aircraft engines, and washing machines.
