Course Information

Prerequisite: M.E. E3311. Fundamentals of convection, boiling, condensation, melting, solidification. Extended surfaces of arbitrary and specific shapes. Heat exchangers: basic methods of thermal design, flow arrangements, effects of variable conditions. Shell-and-tube. Plate heat exchangers. Design procedures for process heat exchangers. Rating and sizing of compact heat exchangers. Applications to HVAC systems design, indoor air quality control, electronics packaging, and solar thermal energy systems design.
