Course Information

Prerequisite: E.E. E3202. Corequisite: Stat.-IEOR W3658. A basic course in communication and modulation theory, stressing modern digital communication systems. Introductory material on communication networks is included, focusing on the physical and data link layers. Covered are such topics as PCM and DPCM systems, time division multiplexing, high frequency digital communication systems (PSK, FSK, OOK), and AM and FM systems. Examples are drawn from current communications practice. Also included is an introductory discussion of packet-switched networks: LANs, protocol stack, introduction to queuing, and statistical multiplexing.
