"Professor Polvani has been in Columbia for 9 years. He is a member of the applied physics department; my research deals mostly with geophysical fluid dynamics, which means that i study the physics of rotating shallow fluids such as the atmospheres of planets in the solar system; i am particularly fond of vortices."
