The Vertical Term
V is known as the vertical term because it is a function of vertical parameters: mixing height, receptor height, and effective stack height. The vertical term takes into account multiple reflections of the plume from the ground surface. Analyzing the short-term area source model one can see that the pollutant concentration goes to zero as you go further from the source in the downwind and cross wind directions and reaches a maximum value at the source.
