The term bioinstrumentation is increasingly used to describe the combination of advanced engineering technology and biotechnology. This module will concentrate on the application of advanced engineering technology towards the solution of medical and biological problems. The application of engineering science to develop instruments capable of measuring various physiological or biological characteristics of the human body will be presented. Various technical design methodologies and the medical aspects of bioinstrumentation design will be discussed in the following sections.
