XV Image Editor
Starting XV
To start XV, type xv& at the winterm prompt and press Enter.
The XV title screen will appear; clicking on the title screen with the
right mouse button will give you the main icon panel:
General tips

Use the Load button to open image files

Use the Save button to save images
-
do not forget to specify the filetype from the pulldown menu
- be careful of what directory the file is saved to
-
Once the image is loaded, an area can be selected by dragging the mouse
on the screen with the left button held down

Selected area can then be cropped using the Crop button
-
Image Size pulldown menu allows the user to change image
size.

Windows > Color Editor gives access to a very powerful
color editor
Taking snapshots
If you click on the Grab button on the main panel, the snapshot
dialogue box comes up, which allows you to take snapshots of the
windows on your desktop. There are two ways to do it:
Grab feature allows the user to
click on the window to be grabbed

Close or minimize all the windows you do not need open

Make sure nothing is blocking the window you are about to grab

Selecting Hide XV windows would make the XV window get out
of the way as the snapshot is taken

Click on Grab
-
Click on the top of the window you want to grab

After you hear a beep, the image will appear on the desktop
AutoGrab takes a snapshot
of the window that the mouse cursor is over when the delay period is
over.

Close or minimize all the windows you do not need open

Make sure nothing is blocking the window you are about to grab

Selecting Hide XV windows would make the XV window get out
of the way as the snapshot is taken

Enter a delay period in seconds (3 to 5 recommended)

Click on AutoGrab

Position the mouse cursor over the window you want to grab. Do not
click.

After you hear a beep, the image will appear on the desktop
