Abstract
This report identifies the features of pedestrian and driver-friendly
streets. In order to understand what features would be useful, one
must become a pedestrian to obtain first-hand experience.
Photographs of existing street furniture were taken and the services
they provided were established and categorized. The categories
range from the basic to the expendable: Informational; Safety,
Security and Surveillance; Communications; Transactions;
Entertainment; Emergency; Sanitation; Aesthetics; Advertisements;
Basic Needs, and Handicapped. Also, a list of needs for pedestrians
and drivers was produced. This list encompasses desires that are
currently being fulfilled and also those which are slightly ahead of
its time. In addition, we present a glimpse into the street of the
future and its possible opportunities for revenue.
