Engineering Biotechnology Resources

The Engineering Biotechnology program is designed to develop an integrated approach to teaching the biological and engineering principles involved in developing and manufacturing biotechnology products. This project encompasses Genetic Engineering, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, FDA Regulations on Manufacturing, Drug Delivery, and Biosensors.

Development is in progress for programs to be delivered via the World Wide Web (WWW) and CD-ROM disks.

A few multimedia educational materials are available at the Biotechnology and Bioengineering WWW site, and more will be uploaded soon. Two home pages, one for Engineering Biotechnology and another for Fundamentals of Manufacturing, will be available.

Aeration Module

Virtual Lab on oxygen transfer rate measurement. Student can change stirrer speed and adjust air flow rate and observe dynamic changes in dissolved oxygen concentraton indicated by "DO."

This module was designed and produced by Raj Mutharsasan, Frank A. Fletcher Professor of Chemical Engineering at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa.

Gateway Presentation
at FIE

Dateline November 13, 1996: "Gateway Coalition: Bringing it Together" was the topic of a presentation at the Frontiers in Engineering (FIE) conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. The purpose of the presentation was to discuss the issues, efforts, and success of the Gateway program as it begins to bring the parts of the program together to address the engineering educational enterprise.

Members of the Executive Committee conducted a multimedia presentation and discussion covering the accomplishments and future plans of the Coalition.

Bob Borland, Gateway Central project manager, and Raj Mutharsasan, Frank A. Fletcher Professor of Chemical Engineering at Drexel University, appear in the Gateway traveling display.
