Gateway Workshops at The Cooper Union

The Cooper Union School of Engineering has recently been host to two workshops sponsored by the Gateway Coalition.

Assessment in the Context of ABET 2000: This workshop, held on September 12, 1997, familiarized faculty members with assessment methods useful in professional education. Two educators from Alverno College, a leader in developing ability-based undergraduate education, offered presentations at the workshop: Jean Bartels, Dean of the School of Nursing; and Bob Saemann, Professor in the School of Business. Faculty and staff from The Cooper Union, NJIT, Polytechnic University, and Columbia University attended. Jack McGourty discussed how assessment can be used to improve course design and teaching.

Assessment Workshop: During this workshop held on October 22, 1997, Jack McGourty met with faculty members from each academic department in the engineering school at The Cooper Union. Representatives from mathematics, science, and the humanities also attended. Dr. McGourty presented the assessment objectives and processes, and the participants worked on departmental objectives in small groups.¨
