Manufacturing/Concurrent Engineering
This course will describe the concept of "QUALITY" - Its components and its impact on manufacture. We will review the underlying principles of Probability and Statistics that govern the techniques employed. "Quality Control" is the sum of methods used to measure, compare and adjust manufacturing elements in order to maintain a given level of product uniformity. Various methods of Quality Control will be described: Control charts, variables and attributes charts, producer's and consumer's risk, acceptance sampling, process capability, etc. Later, we will discuss methods for Quality Improvement, ways of choosing variables of importance and their specific values, so as to maximize the performance of a product or process.
