In 1992, with support from the Gateway Engineering Education Coalition, NJIT began developing and offering an engineering design experience for freshmen. The Freshman Engineering Design (FED) program has undergone several revisions since its inception, and NJIT faculty members have developed a large collection of associated educational materials. The FED program has produced significant increases in student retention and graduation rates.
