This program is intended to begin the student's preparation for future practice. It introduces a small but important segment of the present "State of the Art." The subject matter of the program focuses on areas which are critical and central to the present SOTA and very likely to remain so in the foreseeable future. The segment consists of six areas, 1) interdisciplinary fundamentals, 2) the pivotal role of experimentation, 3) the transcendent role of the computer in the practice of the profession, 4) the imperative for superior communications skills in engineering practice, 5) the importance of teamwork and 6) the practice of design as the defining element of the profession.
