The Committee provides a forum for women at NJIT to discuss matters of common concern, including issues related to the academic and social environment of the university. It also explores the continued integration of gender into the curriculum; explores strategies for recruiting additional women students, faculty, and staff; and assesses the impact of university policies on women. The Committee consults with the President on relevant issues and recommends strategies for addressing areas of concern. One of the first recommendations the committee made to President Fenster was the creation of the Constance A. Murray Women's Center.
The committee consists of a broadly representative group of women on campus: faculty, administrators, staff, graduate students and undergraduate students. Much of the work of the committee is done through its subcommittees: Planning, Curriculum, Recruitment and Retention, Publicity. Committee members chair subcommittees but membership is open to all women on campus.
