HOST, the Hispanic Organization of Students in Technology, is a diverse student cultural organization that is determined to promote the Hispanic culture, provide academic support, and perform community service. We have achieved these goals by holding seminars, workshops, social gatherings, tutoring and mentoring programs to keep our members informed and united. SHPE, the Society of Hispanic Professionals Engineers, is the largest national Hispanic organization in engineering and science. SHPE founded in Los Angeles, California in 1974, is poly-disciplined and multicultural. It is divided into six regions which support, thirty-three professional chapters and one hundred twenty-eight student chapters nationwide. Our chapter, at NJIT was founded in 1986, and it has grown to a membership of 128 active members. The goals of our organization are to preserve and promote the Hispanic Pride, and to provide academic support to our members and the student body, informing them of available professional opportunities and services. HOST does not- only mean business, it also means fun. We recognize the need for a balance of hard work and healthy social life. Therefore, we sponsor cultural events geared toward the general school community that will provide a flavor of the rich variety of Hispanic cultures. |
