Coalition Survey/Analysis of HPD Activities
Two surveys attempting to ascertain the atmosphere for minorities and women at the ten Engineering Schools involved in the Gateway Coalition were mailed out. One survey was directed specifically at the Engineering School and the other was aimed at the entire University.
The purpose of the surveys was to try to determine what types of programs geared toward minorities and women exist in the Engineering schools, how much is spent on these programs and who is financing them. By collecting similar data for the Universities as a whole, it was hoped that there could be some basis for comparison. Statistical data as to the ethnic and gender make-up of the faculty and the students was also obtained. The surveys were fairly detailed and tedious to fill out. In some cases schools either did not answer a question or did not answer all parts to a question. Given the lack of some data, the summary of the surveys is as conscientious as possible.
