MYMUP

MULTI-YEAR, MULTI-UNIVERSITY PROJECT


MYMUP is a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional project now going into its fourth successful year at the Cooper Union. In the past three years, MYMUP has taken the form of inter-university design courses focusing on real, relevant issu es; and offered to students from various disciplines after Freshman year.

The successfulness of MYMUP lies in the freedom given to students to really think through and conceptualize their design ideas, and then present them professionally after considering the problem and possible solutions from many different angles.

The fact that MYMUP projects bring together engineers, artists, and architects from institutions with different geographical locations, teaching modes, and philosphies; adds to the diverse and innovative outcomes of each project. In the past three yea rs, Cooper Union has worked with Florida International University and with Polytechnic University (Brooklyn, NY) on MYMUP projects. Bridges Students develop design projects centered upon tangible or conceptual rationales for BRIDGES.

Governor's Island - Fall 1997: Students develop a proposal for the use of Governor's Island in New York Harbor while the Island is up for sale.

Future Intersection - Fall 1996: Students develop a design plan to improve the busy intersection at Liberty and West Streets in downtown Manhattan.

SmartStreets - Fall 1995: Students design an information Kiosk for tourists and New Yorkers; their design was featured in a report by a local television news program.
